With two jumps of 223,5 and 219,5 metres, Matti Hautamaeki won the first ski flying event in Planica. Andreas Widhoelzl, who had been close to breaking the hill record on Thursday, finished second, with 0.1 point behind the Finn (227,5 and 220 metres). Third place was taken by Norway's Bjoern Einar Romoeren, whose second-round effort was the longest jump of the day (228,5 metres)

Matti Hautamaeki, the current holder of the hill record (231 metres set in 2003) made his sixth consecutive win in World Cup, winning with a slight advantage ahead of Andreas Widhoelzl. The Austrian lead after the first round, but it was Matti Hautamaeki who finally reached the top spot thanks to his good landing technique that put him in advantage. Bjoern Einar Romoeren, after his huge effort of 228,5 metres in the second leg, moved up ten places in the ranking and finished third. Romoeren overtook his compatriot Roar Ljoekelsoey, who finished only 2.5 points behind.

In the first round, Adam Małysz flew 223,5 metres and took fourth place, but he failed to hold his position after his second-round jump of 214,5 metres. A warm applause from the crowd didn't help Robert Kranjec and Rok Benkovic. Kranjec, who was third after the first leg, didn't manage to concentrate in his second attempt and settled for 10th place, making Rok Benkovic (7th place) the best Slovenian competitor of the day.

It seems that there wasn't enough strength left for the top ski jumpers of the World Cup standings to fight for the podium in Saturday's competition. Janne Ahonen lied in 30th position after the first round, but managed however to move up to 17th place in the second leg. With 30th place in the competition, Jakub Janda spoiled his chances for the third place in the World Cup overall. Another top jumper, Martin Hoellwarth, finished in 23rd position.
