Hat trick by Janne Ahonen

The Saturday's World Cup event in Trondheim finished with another victory by Janne Ahonen. With his 281.5 points the Finn beat Jakub Janda from The Czech Republic (277.3 points) and Austria's Andreas Widhoelzl (268.5 points). The holder of the hill record, Adam Malysz, finished 15.

This time it was not the wind but the rain that was disturbing the competitors. However, some jumpers coped with bad weather conditions - the Czech Republic's Jakub Janda was one of them. In the first round, he was the first jumper to surpass the distance of 130 metres. His 130,5 metres and 136.9 points let him get an advantage of 1.3 point over Thomas Morgenstern (129,5 metres). But it was Janne Ahonen who became the leader after the first round, with his amazing jump of 132 metres (135.6 points). Adam Malysz didn't manage to repeat his good jumps from the qualification and the trial rounds - with his jump of 122 metres and not very satisfactory marks from the judges, he was forced to settle for 16. place.

Andreas Goldberger, for whom it was the first performance in this season's World Cup, seems to have a very bad luck. After a good jump of 120 metres in the first round, it turned out that his skis didn't comply to the new FIS regulations and the famous Austrian jumper was disqualified.

During the second round, the weather conditions got even worse. The rain changed into a real downpour. The Norwegian Tommy Ingebrigtsen, 26. after the first leg, became a new leader with his massive 127-metre jump, much to the delight of his home crowd. Adam Malysz jumped 124,5 metres and managed to move to 15. place on 242.7 points.

The first jumper to make a jump over the distance of 130 metres in the second round was Matti Hautamaeki (130,5 metres). However, he failed to beat Roar Ljoekelsoey and Andreas Widhoelzl. The Austrian was guaranteed a place in the podium after abortive attempts by Georg Spaeth and Thomas Morgenstern, who in the end slipped into 4. place after his jump of 125 metres.

After a storming second- round effort by Jakub Janda (133 metres), the third victory by Janne Ahonen seemed a little bit less obvious. But the current leader of the World Cup remained untouchable: he jumped 133,5 metres and this distance was enough to win on 4.7 points over the Czech.

After three competitions of the World Cup circuit, Janne Ahonen is leading ahead of Thomas Morgenstern and Jakub Janda. Poland's Adam Malysz is 16.
